living room renovation chume!

Grissom with his new Ray Bans getting ready to go out on the town.
 west wall framed.
chunkers usually watches me do manly things with manly tools. he decided it was break time.
heres mango. she is a crazy monster.

finally got my new toy. what did i do without one?

floor support

one of my biggest pet peeves is a bouncy floor. so for the master bedroom, enter: (2)-2x10's. they are holding up my 2x8 floor joists spanning 18'-0" long. son of a buck. the beam makes it amazing.

this beam is under the living room. took me a good while to dig down with a crazy hand gardening shovel. then it took my brother in law and I forever to get it up in place. i hate dirt crawl spaces.
the jack is sitting on a CMU so it'll be nice and strong. two rooms down, two to go.

operation renovation storm door

this is the hillbilly of a storm door. it is nasty. it is redneck. it is horrid. time to make it fancy.
hinges before.
i loved the handle, so it gets to stay.
so after i took of layers of paint, clear coat and stain, i finally got down to the wood. then i made wife sand some small stuff cause of her womanly dainty fingers.
i used minwax early american 230 for stain.

this is the grid that ill be putting antique glass in. i know, i know, im classy.

since im an expert glazier naturally, i wouldnt like the white compound against the wood. so i got these 1/4" x 1/4" rods to hide the glass inserts.
i salvaged 7 of the 8 antique pieces needed for the grid, from my old work at the glass shop. so only the bottom right piece is regular double strength glass.
here is the redone hinges. the stain i used was a satin stain cause im not a big fan of really shiny finished wood. wife didnt have a say. i hope she doesnt read this.

it took waaaaaaay longer that i expected to get this done. but hey, im not chris gable. he is the man. but for my first wood door renovation, its not bad. for the front, its a 10 yarder or so. but on the inside, its good up close. its just that some paint got into the grain of the wood and i couldnt get it out. son of a buck.

there are four of these on the inside that turn to remove the grid. its supposed to have another frame with a screen for the summer, but i have no idea where thats at. i guess ill be making one.
interior view. all done. finally. next will be the front door. not looking forward to that.
